Stress such a big part in our health issues. It’s a stressful world these days and we deal with it daily. If we allow the stress to get the better of us then it can lead to health issues and even relationship strains.
Where does it come from?
- Violent world events

- Other people’s negativity
- So much more…..
Did you realize that even our diet becomes affected by stress in numerous ways? Stress can change the way our body digests the food, it can slow our metabolism down and it can lead to excessive eating of comfort foods. This causes additional strain on our physical well being & emotional self esteem.
Stress can raise blood pressure, sugar levels in diabetics, contribute to ulcers, lower our resistance and much more.
There many holistic & positive ways to help ourselves deal with the daily stress.
- Quiet time
- Walking (especially in nature)
- Breathing exercises
When you find the perfect stress cure for you and stick to it, your health & well being will improve immensely!

Archangel Michael is considered the leader of the archangels. His name means “he who is like God,” and he is the archangel of protection and the patron saint of policemen. He carries a sword that symbolizes his ability to cut through all fear and resistance. He lends his courage and his strength to anyone who calls on him. Michael has a fiery energy, and when you invoke him it’s very possible you might feel warm or even begin to sweat. If you tap into your clairvoyance, you might see the colors purple and blue, which are associated with Archangel Michael’s presence. Our everyday breathing is quite shallow and usually only partially fills our lungs. When we are beginning a meditation, we need to adjust our breathing to completely fill not only our lungs but also our stomach. Take a normal breath….feel where the airs goes and pay attention to how much air you pull in and how much you exhale. Now….take a deep breath….pulling in as much air as you possibly can….expanding both your lungs & stomach. This is how much air your lungs hold (plus some) and when you only take in a small amount and exhale a small amount….think about how much stale & used air is remaining in your lungs. Think about how little exercise your lungs are really getting each day. So…..to start your meditation practice, breathing deeper & fuller will not only help you de-stress but will also help build up the strength of your lungs & stomach. This will keep you healthier and breathing stronger for much longer!
Get comfortable…sitting or laying down….close your eyes…..
Take a slow deep breath in…..fill the lungs & belly as much as you can…..tell yourself, in your mind, IN IN IN……..
Now slowly exhale as much air as possible…..contracting both the lungs & belly….telling yourself, OUT OUT OUT…….. repeat this several times…………
YOU HAVE JUST MEDITATED! You were focused on yourself and on the moment….not worried or thinking about the outside…even if just for a few moments 🙂
2. Muscle relaxation:
Another important part of meditation is relaxation of the muscles. One of the easiest ways to practice this is to tighten and then relax one area at a time….hands, arms, shoulders, back, belly, buttocks (yes I said buttocks…get the giggles out now….lol), thighs, knees, calves, ankles & feet.
Start with the basics when you are first beginning to learn and then you can add the detailed areas as you go.
Here’s an example to start: Get comfy, close your eyes…..do 3 breaths as listed in the breathing above…..
Now clench your hands tight….hold for 1…..2…..3……
Now slowly release and pay attention to letting those hands relax…melt….just hang there……
Now the shoulders…….scrunch them up tight to your ears…hold for 1…..2….3…..now slowwly let them drop until they droop down….just hanging and relaxed…
Now the thighs……tighten them up….hold for 1….2…..3……ok….now relax them slowly and let them melt into the chair or floor….
Now the calves……tighten them up…hold for 1……2…….3…….ok…now relax them slowly and let them melt into the chair or floor….
Now the feet…..tighten them up, scrunch the toes, arch the foot…whatever you need to do to tighten them up…..hold for 1……2…….3…….now slowly let them relax….feel them hang there all limp like jello.
Take another 3 slow deep breaths in & out as you began…….now slowly wiggle your fingers and toes…..when you’re ready….open your eyes and smile as you enter back into the room 🙂
3. Body Scan:
This one is my favorite and I think it’s the easiest to get your focus trained. It also has the added benefit of getting to know your body and how it feels…to be more aware of when things are out of whack & in need of attention. This one also helps to grow your intuition as you will be working with your 3rd eye….or your imagination 😉 You will be focusing on the different parts of the body and using your mind’s eye to see inside….yes, inside as in bones, tendons, blood vessels, etc and how amazing the body is and what it does for us everyday.
So….let’s get started!
Get comfy (laying down preferred but can be done sitting)…..close your eyes…. Take a slow deep breath…..filling the chest & belly…..slowly exhale, contracting the chest & belly……again…..deep breath in…….exhale….one last deep breath……slow exhale…….
Now….with your mind’s eye….take your focus to your hands…..with that wonderful minds eye…see inside the hand…all the tiny bones in the hand and the little bones that are in the fingers….see the joints and how they move….bend the fingers a little and see how the joints work…..be in awe at how much they do this all day…..take notice to if either hand feels stiff or achy…if any finger doesn’t move as easy…or are both feeling good? Acknowledge this feeling and put it aside. …thank your hands for all they do. take a breath…..
Now turn your focus to your shoulders……use your mind’s eye, your imagination, to see the inside of the shoulders…the joints & the bones…..see how they move….circle your shoulders just a bit….take notice to any stiffness or discomfort…..think about how much they move in a day….how much stress they hold……acknowledge any discomfort and then put the thought aside…thank the shoulders for all they do. take a breath…..
Now turn your attention to your knees…..with your mind’s eye see the joint..the cap…see how work together….bending up & down, move them a bit so you can see how they move……think about how much they move in a day…pay attention and take note to how they feel….is one stiffer than the other? Do they both move the same? Acknowledge any discomfort and then put the thought aside…thank them for all they do. take a breath….
Now turn your focus to your feet……with your mind’s eye again…..see how the ankle bones & joints move and twist…..see all the teeny tiny bones running across the top of the feet…..see the short little bones & tiny joints in the toes….turn your ankles a bit….wiggle your toes a bit…see how they move…feel any difference between the two…take notice to any discomfort…..acknowledge that and put the thought aside…..thank your feet for carrying you and for all they do in the day.
Now take a deep breath in….1……2……3……slowly exhale…..again…in……1….2….3…..slowly exhale…..one last deep breath in….1…….2…….3………..slowly exhale……..move your fingers & toes…..and when you’re ready….open your eyes and with a smile come back into the room 🙂
Take just a few minutes out of your day and try it! Feel the difference 🙂
characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.
MEDICINEcharacterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the physical symptoms of a disease.
If we look way back….before society became one of an instant gratification need…..we’ll see that the treatment of illness & disease, whether physical, spiritual or mental was treated as a whole. It was understood that one needed to find the root cause and work on that first. In today’s treatment it has all been separated. Now we have physicians for the body, psychiatrists for the mind and spiritual counselors for the spirit. People want a quick fix and they expect it to be done for them. Society as a whole has given up the responsibility of their own well being to others…many (to be fair…not all) of whom are just worried about filling their bank accounts. Is this working? We see more and more disease and more repeated issues…or the treatment of one thing leads to other issues which now need attention. The commercials for all these new medications say a lot when they refer to all the “possible” side effects.
“The greatest mistake physicians make is that they attempt to cure the body without attempting to cure the mind; yet the mind and the body are one and should not be treated separately!” ~ Plato
Even so many years ago they understood that if you didn’t heal at the root of the issue then it would not be fully healed and would only resurface. Searching for the root cause and working on healing it is a cooperative & joint effort between the patient & the guide. I refer to the professional treating the patient as a guide because when it comes down to it…they are the one guiding the patient to find their own answers and to guiding them to do the work they need to do. It used to be one person that could work with the person in need of healing….a shaman, medicine woman/man, village elder, etc. They would work with the patient to find the root cause first and it would take time. Then the work on healing would start and the patient played a part in this….it wasn’t easy & it wasn’t instant…but once healed it lasted.
Temporary healing isn’t the answer. Yes….there are times when immediate help is needed and medications are necessary but we can’t expect the body to completely heal if the mind & spirit isn’t also healed and visa versa. The easiest example to give is the health issues caused by stress. A man has heart disease due to stress and ends up with high blood pressure or worse yet needs heart surgery. The physical issue is taken care of in the moment but if the issue causing the stress isn’t dealt with. If the patient ISN’T taught to deal with the stress in a better way it will continue to be an issue for them and they could be in a worse situation later. If they ARE taught to understand the root cause and how to deal with it on a daily basis….to do the work themselves via meditation or relaxation techniques, etc….they will then treat the root cause and find their physical health improving. Stress is one of the biggest root causes of many illness & disease but there are many other things that could be at the root. Sometimes it could even be childhood issues that were never dealt with and have been held in festering and then developing into physical issues.
Let’s get back to holistic and look at the whole picture. Long term healing is a much better option than quick fixes needed to be repeated over and over and causing even more issues that then need healing too. Let’s get off the hamster wheel and actual make progress! Take responsibility for your own wellbeing back! We still need the physicians and other professionals but don’t give them sole ownership of your health!
We communicate with each other in many obvious ways…..verbal, body language, written & much more. We tend to forget about some of the more “unseen & unheard” ways. The energy you put out also communicates with others. Just thinking positive or negative thoughts will affect others around you just as you are affected by those in your surroundings.
If you are empathic you are even more open to this way of communication. This can be a wonderful thing if you have control of it but on the other hand it can be confusing and overwhelming if you don’t understand it or even know what it means. For somebody that is empathically open, they can walk into a room feeling quite happy & joyful and then in a few moments then can be feeling angry, depressed or some other emotion. If they aren’t understanding that they are “hearing & feeling” somebody elses thoughts & emotions then they mistake them for their own and bam! How many times has this been mistaken for Bi-Polar or some other label?
Keep this in mind when you’re carrying negative thoughts also….there maybe others that are “hearing” you and being effected. Keeping your thoughts positive and upbeat is not only good for yourself but also for those around you.
These energy communications can be even stronger with those that are close to you….family, good friends, partners, etc. You create energy cords between you and your energy…be it positive or negative….will flow through those cords. Have you ever felt as though your partner is not really listening to you even though they can repeat the words you have said? Do you get a cold feeling with some people and a warm feeling with others? Have you ever felt really intimate with someone and feel that you know exactly what they are feeling or what they are going to say? The energy is always flowing out around you……..
Keep those cords positive…when possible, remove ones that become negative or stagnant!
Also learn to acknowledge the difference between negative & positive emotions & feelings that others send out and learn to not fear them, not be controlled by them and to feel compassion for them. Here is a guided meditation to help focus on this…..
